Chef Robert Gillespie is honored to succeed Chef Taylor Ricketts at Delta Bistro after Chef Taylor’s departure to spend more time with her family. Although big shoes to fill, Chef Gillespie is excited about the challenge.
A native of the local area, after finishing high school Robert attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans, majoring in fine arts with an emphasis in film and photography. His exposure to the eclectic culture, food and renowned restaurants of New Orleans resulted in Robert developing another passion and art form…food and the culinary arts.
To fulfill his dream of becoming a professional chef, Robert and his wife, Stephanie, moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where Robert attended culinary school at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute. After completing culinary school, Robert and his wife moved back to Mississippi, where he began working at actor Morgan Freeman’s restaurant, Madidi, in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Wanting to move back closer to home and family, Robert worked at several restaurants in the Greenwood area and, in 2006, became Chef Ricketts’ Sous Chef at Delta Bistro. Robert is now the Chef de Cuisine at Delta Bistro, the successor to Delta Bistro, carrying on the restaurant’s tradition of presenting the finest in Delta cuisine in a creative and welcoming setting in downtown Greenwood.
Chef Robert’s culinary journey has enabled him to develop his own creative style of unique cuisine influenced by his New Orleans experience and his lifelong exposure to the deeply rooted culinary world of his home, the Mississippi Delta.
